Fires of Freya are a 4 piece Rock band hailing from the North East of England and Glasgow (UK).
Formed in December 2017 the band consist of:
- Lead Vocals & Keyboards (Cheryl Reynolds);
- Backing Vocals and Guitar (Shaun Evans);
- Drums (Dan Baldwin); and
- Backing Vocals and Bass Guitar (Martin Scott).
The band were originally named Break the Silence; however, changed their name in September 2018 to Fires of Freya.
The band recorded their first Live EP “Crash and Burn” in June 2018 which was released via BandCamp/ReverbNation/SoundCloud and YouTube in September 2018 and on 8th November 2018 to all major stores (Spotify/Apple Music/Amazon Music etc.)
NE Volume magazine had this to say about the first EP:
“The brand new EP by Fires of Freya (formerly known as Break the Silence) demonstrates a certain sophistication that reminds me of classic bands like Fleetwood Mac. The powerful and melodic female vocal rouses emotion, whilst the music flows from paired-back ethereal sound to energetic indie/rock guitar. The opening track, ‘Starless Sky’, provides a great introduction, with powerful riffs pulling you along with their momentum; this style continues in tracks ‘Loaded’ and ‘Crash and Burn’. Second on the track listing, ‘Give A Reason’, adds a subtler tone and is a real stand out track for me – it really delivers an emotional punch. With a few radio plays under their belts already, I expect to hear a lot more from Fires of Freya this year. You can listen to the EP now on Spotify and Apple Music.”
5***** NE VOLUME RATING
NARC. magazine reviewed the track “Loaded” from the first EP and had this to say:
“ Given that the opening licks here had me recalling The Kooks (and innumerable other all-male mid-‘00s landfill merchants), the introduction of a female vocalist came as a shock to my system – and a rather pleasant one at that! Loaded isn’t exactly revelatory, yet it does make light of those initial impressions, with Cheryl Reynolds’ rough and ready voice in particular elevating it above the kind of meat ‘n’ potatoes drudgery I’d feared. Considering they only formed last December, this quartet may well be worth keeping an eye on. “
The bands second EP “Muddy Waters” has now been recorded and will be released 8th December 2018 with a launch night being held at Little Buildings Newcastle. Support will come from A New Nowhere and Bob Douglas and The Frequency, tickets on sale now:
The Band will be touring the North East of England throughout 2018 with the aim of touring the rest of the UK in 2019; check out the events page to see when you can catch their next performance!
